Uninterruptible Power Supplies

Uninterruptible Power Supplies will power protect your business as well as conditioning the quality of your mains electricity removing problems such as power surges, power spikes or harmonic distortion, which could seriously damage your expensive equipment.

An uninterruptible power supply provides an instantaneous backup, which will automatically switch from the mains power to the backup battery power in the event of a power failure. The autonomy of a UPS is generally a relatively short period of time, maybe 5-15 minutes, as this is sufficient to bring an auxiliary power source (e.g. a diesel generator) online or safely shut down the equipment.

UPS systems are generally classified as one of two types:
1. Online – the unit draws the power from the mains and stores it as chemical energy within batteries for when it is required. In the event of a loss of mains power, the stored current is converted into alternating current and powers the connected equipment.

2. Off-line, line interactive – these units automatically switch between the mains power and their own battery power source and maintain the power until the batteries run out or the mains power is online again.
